About Floyd Central

Floyd Central High School is a part of the New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation which serves nearly 11,000 students in Floyd County, Indiana. The Floyd County school district comprises the twelfth largest school district in the state. After 1967, the school grew rapidly. The school is currently under renovation, expanding upon its eight acre complex that includes a planetarium and a swimming pool.

Accreditation

Floyd Central has a first class commission from the Indiana Department of Public Instruction and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, a voluntary regional accreditation organization.

In the last decade, Floyd Central has been repeatedly recognized as an outstanding high school at the state and national level.

  • 1994- 1996, 2002 - National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
  • Named an Indiana Four Star School twelve times.
  • 2005 -Recognized for excellence in educational achievement as a Best Buy school for the fifth time.
  • Recognized for its career planning program by the U.S. Army.
  • The school's Student Service Department is recognized as a Gold Star School.
  • The performing arts programs are recognized as exemplary programs throughout the state of Indiana.
  • The music department has been nationally recognized twice as a Grammy School.
  • The Dance Team has brought home 8 national titles from 2003-2010
  • Boys All Sports Champions eight of the last ten years
  • Girls All Sports Champions for six straight years 2000-2005.
  • Named the Conference All Sports Champion eight of the past ten years.

A Renaissance School

In the 1993-1994 school year, Floyd Central joined more than 2,000 other schools in the United States in breaking through the paradigms of today's educational system by offering numerous recognition and incentive programs to reward both student and teacher performance. The primary goal of the Renaissance Educational Foundation is to motivate students to attain a higher level of academic success.
